The Worship Leading Practicum

Next Session: October 1 - December 3, 2007

The Worship Leading Practicum is a 10-week training and consulting experience designed for worship leaders.

Classes are an interactive study consisting of :

• Daily Devotions
• Weekly reading
• Practical assignments
• Evaluations
• Weekly phone consults with Scot and a small group of students.

This form of consulting is based on practicality, networking with peers, and feedback. Classes are kept to a small size to facilitate networking and personal attention. Think of it as a web based small group with homework (no need to travel to an out-of-town conference - you can do this in your pajamas).

We will explore such issues as dealing with criticism, the power of rest, dealing with band conflict, putting together song lists, personal spirituality, song transitions, and more. Reading assignments will be based on the Worship Leading Essentials series posted on Worshipplus. Assignments are practical applications of the reading.

Here is what you can expect as far as a time investment:

• Daily Bible reading and journaling
• Weekly conference (phone and computer): Monday 9PM-10PM (EDT)
• Weekly reading and assignments (30-90 min per week)

For the weekly conference, you will need access to a phone and a computer online (we will be communicating by phone and internet). Fees for phone and web conferencing are included in the course fee. You will need to pay for phone calls and internet charges (unless you steal a friend’s cell phone and hang out at an internet cafe). You simply call a phone number, sign in at the web page and you are ready to rock. All details will be sent to you upon registration.

This course assumes that you have a confident grasp of your instrument and that you are currently engaged in worship leading. We will deal primarily with the practical aspects of worship leading, and secondarily with the philosophy of worship and worship leading. If you are a worship leader looking to go to the next level, this course may be for you.

Course fee: $250.00. This includes all course materials, Life Journal, phone and web conferencing fees.

Payment for the October session is due in full by September 10. If the fee is a bit out of reach, you may talk to some of the leaders of the church where you serve. Many times they are more than happy to invest in continued learning.
