The Church Killed Jesus

image Jesus warned them to keep it quiet, not to breathe a word of it to anyone. He then began explaining things to them: "It is necessary that the Son of Man proceed to an ordeal of suffering, be tried and found guilty by the elders, high priests, and religion scholars, be killed, and after three days rise up alive." He said this simply and clearly so they couldn’t miss it.  - Mark 8 :30-32

Jesus opened up about who he was and his destiny.  It was the first time in his ministry that he began to bring the disciples in on the whole story.  He tells of his accusers and killers:  the church.  We killed him.  Those who thought they knew the most about God knew the very least.  Those who had religious degrees killed God.  The ones who were appointed as religious leaders were responsible for the death of the one they served.  So wrapped up in the ambition to serve God, they missed it.  More than missed it really.  They became part of the opposition.

I don’t want to know so much about the rules and regulations of God that I totally miss who he is.  I don’t want to get lost in systems of thoughts and practices to the extent that it all becomes about the rules and the ceremonies, and less about Christ.

One year during bike week, we watched the cops pull over riders whose ape-hangers were above their shoulders. I’m pretty sure this guy would have drawn a violation. Good way to dry the pits though.
